Google Business Profile Photos: What Restaurants Get Wrong

A Google Business Profile is one of the highest-traffic pages a restaurant has, yet it's often the most neglected — filled with whatever photos happen to exist rather than a deliberate, curated selection that represents the restaurant well.

The most common mistake is letting the cover photo default to whatever a guest uploaded last. That single image is often the very first thing someone sees in a search result, and leaving it to chance means the restaurant has no control over its own first impression.

A second mistake is uploading photos with no variety — twenty near-identical shots of the same dish, and nothing showing the dining room, the entrance, or the team. Guests searching Google want a fuller picture before deciding to visit, not a single repeated image.

A third, subtler mistake is uploading photos that are technically fine but don't match what a guest actually experiences — an old menu, a since-renovated dining room, dishes that have since changed. Mismatched expectations are a common source of disappointed first visits and, in turn, weaker reviews.

The fix is simple in principle: set the cover photo deliberately, upload a small, well-chosen set covering food, ambiance and entrance, and review the profile every few months to remove anything outdated — treating it with the same care as the restaurant's own website.
